From Internship to Career: My Experience at SilverTech

By: Abigail Macdonald | 1/13/26

Real projects, genuine mentorship, and the opportunity to launch my career

When I look back on my internship at SilverTech, what stands out most is how quickly I was able to grow. From the moment I joined the team, I was given the chance to contribute to real projects, collaborate with multiple departments and teams, and learn by doing, not just by observing. It was the kind of environment where you’re encouraged to jump in, ask questions, and take ownership, even as an intern.

What made the experience so meaningful was the variety of work I was exposed to. I had the opportunity to support campaigns, write and edit content, work within CMS and CRM platforms, help with website updates, assist with webinars and tradeshows, and contribute to ongoing marketing initiatives across industries. Every week brought something new, and every project pushed me to build skills I didn’t have when I started.

I learned how to think more strategically, communicate more clearly, and manage multiple priorities at once. I became more confident in my writing, more comfortable with marketing tools, and more aware of how all the moving pieces of not just a marketing department, but an entire company fit together.

Beyond my day-to-day work, I was encouraged to explore other departments and learn beyond my immediate role, sitting in on meetings with sales, account and project management, and design to understand how different teams approached their work. I'm grateful I was given the space to be curious and explore beyond my core responsibilities, which helped me see how everything connects. I also worked cross-functionally with digital marketing, contributing to ad campaigns and learning the ins and outs of SEO and GEO optimization.

The responsibility I gravitated toward most was working in the website backend, making content updates, editing page structures, troubleshooting functionality, and ensuring everything worked seamlessly for users. The work allowed me to tap into my creative side while learning technical skills, which was the best of both worlds. With guidance from the development and engineering teams, who were always willing to teach me what I needed to know, I gained hands-on experience in how the technical and creative sides of marketing intersect.

But the biggest impact came from the people. I was included in conversations, trusted with meaningful work, and supported by a team that genuinely wanted me to succeed. Their feedback, encouragement, and willingness to teach made all the difference in my growth.

And the best part of this experience? It didn't end when the internship did. After months of learning, contributing, and becoming part of the team, I was offered a permanent position. Being able to continue my career at SilverTech with the same people who helped shape my foundation is something I'm incredibly grateful for.

My internship wasn't just a steppingstone. It was the start of a career I'm excited about, and I'm proud that it led me here—to a role doing work I genuinely enjoy. I'm excited to take what I've learned and apply it to bigger projects, new challenges, and the next chapter of my career here.

Looking back, this internship didn’t just teach me marketing skills. It helped me find my footing in the professional world. And now, I’m able to continue that journey full-time at SilverTech, and I couldn’t be more excited.
