My SilverTech Internship: What I Learned
By: Gianna Maffei | 7/14/26
When I told people I'd landed a marketing internship, they pictured coffee runs and copy machines. Honestly? So did I.
I was wrong.
Day one, I got handed real work. Work that real people would actually see. And that's when it hit me: marketing is everywhere. Every caption. Every blog post. Every line on a website. Someone chose those words on purpose. At SilverTech, I got to watch those choices get made, and eventually I got to make some myself.
Most of my time went to content. Writing captions. Editing them. Digging into what people are actually talking about online. Here's what nobody tells you: "just write something quick" is a lie. Good and quick almost never happen at the same time. I rewrote one caption six times. Six.
The biggest surprise? How much of it is teamwork. I'd pictured marketing as one person, one laptop, a head full of ideas. Nope. It's writers, designers, and strategists all building on each other, trading feedback, catching what everyone else missed. I learned to share drafts before they felt "perfect," which, as someone who likes things to be perfect, was genuinely hard. It also made everything I worked on better.
I learned something else, too. Professionalism isn't scary. Everyone was busy, but nobody was too busy to answer the question I was nervous to ask. So I asked. Turns out that's the whole trick. Asking questions doesn't mean you don't belong. It's how you get better.
Do I have marketing figured out? Not even close. But I get it now in a way you can't from the outside. I know what it feels like to have an idea, shape it, get feedback, and watch it turn into something real. And I know I like that feeling a lot.
So thank you, SilverTech, for treating an intern like she had something to contribute and for proving first jobs can be so much more than coffee runs.
