Shaping the future of education.
Shared passion is critical in the success of every project. When the New Hampshire Historical Society partnered with SilverTech to develop an educational experience for 4th through 6th grade students on the state’s history, it was a perfect match. Two groups equally invested in delivering New Hampshire's rich history to Granite State kids through a smart and interactive use of technology.
The challenge: Stepping outside of the “standard UX” comfort zone to create an experience that is bilateral, aimed at delivering historical content to both students and educators alike. To accomplish this, SilverTech needed to step into the mindset of a fourth grader to appropriately consider usability, accessibility, and overall interface experience. At the same time, we had to also make sure that educators can retrieve resources, locate lesson plans and curriculum information, and access unit-specific information to complement the students’ educational experience.
Expertise where it matters most.
SilverTech’s UX strategists and designers created an entire new brand for this project. One that introduced a new spokes-character, Mason the Moose. The new brand is based on fun and engaging design principles that translated well into UX/UI and resonated with a younger audience. The website was developed on Kentico’s flexible CMS platform and included custom learning resource modules so that all units, resources, and associated data could be centrally stored, making them available for use when creating pages using specialized layouts and widgets.
With any website, navigation is key. Understanding how a fourth grader navigates a website posed an interesting challenge. SilverTech utilized its UX and information architecture expertise to ensure customized button designs and intuitive age-appropriate labels were designed to also search engine friendly.
One of the main goals of the website, was to develop something that would be easy to maintain and update by site admins and educators. SilverTech developed a wide variety of widgets and other components, available to use on all pages, which provides site administrators complete control and flexibility over the content management and display experience. This way, educators can display the content in the format they think students will best understand.
A proud opening performance.
Since launch of the pilot site, we’ve received really great feedback. Educators and students have found the site to be exciting, effective, and resourceful. Stay tuned for future metrics and results.
